Here we are 12th April 2018 and I'm STILL trying to get back my money that Origin took from my direct debit as I paid a year upfront. I later found they had also been taking monthly payments from my Bank account and eventually had to close the direct debit to stop them doing it as they continued even after I complained.

Now they send me unpleasant emails as I don't have the direct debit open, but can't until they deal with it and stop taking my money they are not due or entitled to.

I have had up till now 4 Origin employees apologising saying they will sort it and no completion, I have asked for a Manager to contact me but nothing yet.

I can only give this honest review as they have been given several opportunities to rectify the issues.

I have been trying to get them to sort it in between my chemotherapy, and it's not on as don't need dreadful customer service at this time, and after reading the reviews I was disappointed as maybe should not have done another year.

Generally the broadband I get is ok for me, occasional dropouts but I have been satisfied, their ability to sort this simple thing says a lot about them, without Origin sending me emails " how did we do, win £50" ?

Just return my money Origin and I can do another direct debit if you promise not to take more money your not entitled to.

Abysmal - in nearly 30 years of internet these are by far the worst, even compared to broadband overseas! I have just switched to Sky.

Looking on here I see it's all been said before.4 Months on and my service is dreadfull. Constant dropouts, hours on the phone to the helpdesk, and I do mean hours for every call! Emails never answered and left with Ofcom to try and get some help.
I am another user who can't wait for the contract to end.
I know it's hard to belive but they are as bad as the reviews say.

Took out a contract but then decided to stay with bt
2 days later. Told I could cancel within 14 days and get full refund. Chased for refund of first payment, no answer to emails or calls. Went through resolver and escalated the matter to the ombudsman and now 6 months later they have issued a refund but with no explanation of why they took so long or refused to answer my communication. Do not go near this company.

After 100 days without Broadband Origins offer of a compensation was a paltry £30. When you consider they had raided my bank account for over 3 times that amount during the same period, it demonstrates the contempt they have for their customers. Tech support won't answer the phone and complaints just spout platitudes

My review is based upon the ongoing attempt to get any service from them. I swapped from very reliable but v expensive BT on March 4. It’s now April 9 and despite many attempts, it’s always 2 to 4 days away. They blame Openreach but have failed to investigate anything that might be their fault. I feel sorry for the front line staff who do their best. I fear that this will soon be another TOTO energy. Here today, gone tomorrow. Avoid!:

This is a good example of "you only get what you pay for".
    For basic standard broadband/calls:
Speed: Half that I got from Plusnet
Customer Service: Seems to be Non-existent!
I cannot recommend this ISP and will be leaving a.s.a.p.

I really can't emphasis enough how awful Orign's service has been. It's increasingly inconsistent, dropping to below 300kb for days at a time (advertised as up to 17mb) and even just not working on and off over the course for several months.

They also claim 24 hour support, but my average wait time would be well over an hour every time (of which there were a lot).

For some reason, theybalso couldn't sort out the billing, which I had to call them about three times - can setting up a direct debut really be that hard?!

    Avoid like the plague.

    Do not purchase Origin broadband!
My router didn't turn up before my go live date. As I could not use the service I tried to cancel to be told that my phone line was live so I had to pay out the years contract even though the line is for internet that I cannot use.
Once I did get online the connection is abysmal!! It buffers or every day and drops off entirely every couple of days.
Origin are not remotely bothered about my issues, they were only interested in getting me signed into the contract.

I have been with Origin for 14 months so though I should update my earlier scathing review.

Broadband speed is still good and has always been at the top end, or above, of the promised speed. Reliability has also been good. On both of these issues Origin have been better than previous providers BT & Post Office.

On customer service (excluding billing), they have improved considerably. The difficulties getting through to them have gone away and the responses have been okay.

On the billing they re still a confusing mess, although they have never actually overcharged me. They will send you an email stating that there is a bill available an quoting the amount. This is occasionally wrong (4 times in 14 months), but they seem to get it sorted out without prompting and if you log in a few days later they have replaced the bill with a correct one. This can cause extra confusion as they seem to replace the original bill having completely deleted the original, so when you ring them up quoting a copy of the bill (that you had the foresight to save) a few days later, the customer service person seems to have no knowledge of the original document and only know about the replacement. If you are going to ring up and complain, get a new copy immediately before ringing them as the problem may have been sorted.

Overall recommended, but only if you have the patience to cope with the admin.

Finally, by way of indication of confidence, I recommended to my daughter to change to Origin (don't believe the web comments about the £25 introduction bonus as there seems to be no way to claim it) and she is now happy, but had to endure two installation delays, one the fault of Origin (you DO have to be at home on go-live day, even if they ell you you don't) and the other the fault of Openreach. Plus, of course, the second bill is incorrect!

Top 5 reasons Origin are pure garbage:

    1. Connection is beyond unreliable.
Netflix constantly buffering, lagging online gaming, can't load simple gifs sometimes when 4G can easily.
It's unreliable and not simply bad because sometimes it works as expected which is great but rare.

    2. Pricier than competitors.
They use same lines as all of the other 80 down 20 up top package providers yet they are more expensive with worse everything.

    3. Awful router given.
Not even dual band like every other provider gives, has a horrible complicated UI and poor performance. Plus they have you return the bloody thing when you cancel internet service with them or incur a charge. Again no other provider I've had asks for router back.

    4. Long call wait times.
Meanwhile you listen to the same annoying Pharrell song played over tinny phone lines for 15 mins.

    5. Clueless technical support.
Came up with a ridiculous reason as to why internet was being slow "too many devices". It handles less devices fine sometimes so clearly not the reason. Also it's 2018 and I pay for your top package. Provide a better router and give some actual helpful troubleshooting advice instead of lame excuses.

To summarise, don't go with Origin or you will regret it; pay up and switch to Zen Internet or save some money and you will probably get better with Plus Net, talktalk etc.

Worst ISP and customer experience I had in 20 years
I have been an Origin customer from April to August 2017 (South london area).
Since I subscribed I faced nothing but problems and bad services.

    - Internet disruptions from poor speed to service completely unavailable
    - I have been charged fees weren't due twice (for maintenance never received)
    - when called to ask for an explanation after hours and hours queuing at the phone my request was bounced back and forth between billing and sales with absolutely no resolution.
    - Customer support even hung up the call on me brutally once
    - Considering the bad service experienced nothing has been done to mitigate, of course I was charged full fee to end the contract before the 12 months

Switched to Plusnet in August 2017 and luckily now all this nightmare is just a far away memory.
Do yourself a favor avoid this company at all cost. Completely waste of time and money.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
My broadband has been awful for months. My devices buffer constantly. I reported this to Origin, they advised there was a network fault. One minute I was told I needed to make an appointment for Open Reach to attend, when I did this, I was told it's external and I don't need to be home. No word of a lie, less than an hour later, an Open Reach engineer arrived, surprise surprise, he needed access inside my house, good job I was home!!! He was here for 5 hours, in the end he changed a line, taking a chunk out of the front of my house. He left assuring me the fault had been resolved. That evening, my broadband was worse than ever, I again contacted Origin to be told that there is another issue, which I was not informed about in the first instance, so there was in fact two faults. This has yet to be resolved. I have been waiting over a month now for the service I am paying for. The staff are rude when you contact them for updates. I have been told "it will be resolved as soon as possible, it could be hours, days or weeks, I don't know". Wow, that's brilliant customer service. I also reported the damage to my property, to be told I had to contact Open Reach myself to complain... ummm no, I am Origins customer, not Open Reaches customer. You have instructed them to attend and do the work, you therefore are responsible for dealing with this complaint.

I am currently working from home, with great difficulty. Origin do not seem bothered in the slightest. My contract doesn't officially end until June 2021. However I have now contacted another provider to leave this shambles of a company ASAP. And I will be taking this down the breach of contract route as I have continued to pay my bill each month despite receiving awful service.
Goodbye Origin!!! See you in court!!!

Rubbish. Keeps dropping out a number of times a day and often goes off needing an engineer a couple times a month. Also slow, can slow down to next to nothing. Customer service try their best and are always polite. If possible go for different company.

Ok... So I left virgin due to high prices and foreign call centres. I thought ill compare and see what comes up. Origin hit top of the list. They stated I could take my number with me from virgin and that they would guarantee me a min 30mbps in speeds. Lies lies lies.lessthan 10mbps they didn't bother chasing my number. And these recon they supply the NHS, don't listen to it.after 2months of hell I'm getting a refund and free out of my contract. Call recording saved me. Staff are good company is worse than old talk talk. STAY AWAY!!!!!

I would say just about the worst in my experience in terms of customer service. Cheap though... It appears that most support are on training and have no clue what they are talking about. ADSL speed varies 3-6 mbps. Passable if there is no other choice at all. If there is and even if you are desperate go for like of TalkTalk, Plusnet

This probably has to be one of the worst internet providers I've had to deal with. Connection constantly cuts out, sometimes for hours or it just jumps on and off every two minutes. Earlier today, I tried downloading an app of the GooglePlay store, it genuinely took me 5 minutes because the connection kept jumping on and off. Don't get me started on the game I tried downloading the other day. YouTube was struggling to load a 240p video earlier this week. And all of this is AFTER we switched to the 'fiber optic' package. We tried calling the tech line, see if we could get these issues sorted, we were told that they cannot speak to us because we, as tenants, are not listed 'as trustees' as it's our landlord who sorted the wifi. I don't blame the employees, it's a rule, not their fault. But it's a stupid rule because they refused to even check if anything was wrong with the connection.

Sure, sometimes it runs smoothly and we don't have any issues, but to put it in perspective, I am writing this off my 3G.

Incredibly poor service. The internet speed is so poor i can barely open emails at times and it is constantly dropping out. Customer service and support is none existent. I’ve spent the best part of 3 hrs trying to get through to someone today. Do yourself a favour and avoid, if you do go with them I guarantee you will regret it. I will not be going back.

I have been a customer for many years with Origin, joining over 6years ago or something when they were a small company. They used to be incredible, with amazing speeds and stability, and constant technical support that worked hard to solve issues.

I still get good speeds, is the only positive thing I have left to say about them these days. My connection keeps dropping, a BT engineer found no fault in my house or wiring, and yet im still waiting for any form of a solution. Their customer service is a joke, they leave you on hold for hours and then fob you off.

Six years ago I couldn't have recommended them enough; but now I would advise you to avoid them like the plague.

Its just not worth the hassle
The advisors on the phone are the only good thing about Origin, I had nothing but trouble setting up with them, they were quick enough to take my money but could not get anything right. And dont try to use the chat function, its not live chat, its clearly a ticket system which works like email - they reply in over 40mins to each new sentence you write. Its not live chat at all. For interest, here is a run down of the stupidity that happened with my particular set up: 1st call - you can have ADSL for this price, we'll call you on the day you move in to arrange setting you up. no-one called so we called them. 2nd call - actually you can have fibre and I will reduce the cost for the first 3 months to match the ADSL cost. Set up and paid the first month. Open Reach engineer turned up, couldnt trace the cable in or couldnt figure out how to run a cable in, wanted access to the roof which we dont have in this block of flats and shouldn't need. Contacted the council and got roof access for the next appointment. 3rd call - re-booked appointment for 2 weeks later. Engineer never turned up. 4th call - please wait until 3pm and call back for the report to find out why. 5th call - called back later was told engineer said you werent home (in covid lockdown of course we were home). 6th call - actually there are no engineer notes on ticket saying anything, the booking was cancelled it doesnt even say you werent home, passing on to provisions to rebook. 6th call - no rebooking was done call is cancelled. Let's rebook you now - and actually you werent set up for fibre at all, it was the ADSL contract, everything you've been told is wrong, its not 18 month contract its a year. 7th call - please just cancel it all I'm going with Virgin Media... 'all done for you, you will recieve a refund in the next 5-10days'. Next morning text comes through saying new appointment is booked... what a mess from start to finish - if it even IS finished. Still waiting to get confirmation that is it cancelled. They are absolutely useless. They take money straight away, cant give a straight answer on the phone, don't respond when you email or use the live chat... I started to think they're a scam to be honest.

The worst “fibre” broadband ever. Constantly being kicked off, the connection is so slow it’s ridiculous. It may be cheap but honestly just pay the extra few quid and go with a better company. I’m 10 months into my sentence now, only 2 months until I can change my broadband supplier. CANNOT WAIT!! Avoid origin like the plague.

We unfortunately signed up for internet with this company. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. We have never had a single day of consistent internet access. We have contacted them on so many occasions it is unreal. We get excuses and lies, conflicting information from whoever we speak to. Nobody will take ownership of our problems.
I urge everybody to steer clear of this rogue outfit, they cannot live up to their own hype nor provide the service you pay for.
As the majority of other reviews state..........
Poor customer service and an even worse internet connection.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

My broadband package with them went live 1st March. The connection was flakey in the first couple of weeks. I was on leave from work so I wasn't that bothered and thought it would settle. However, I work from home quite a bit and after my annual leave, my VPN connection kept dropping out and I couldn't work. On demand tv usually lets you start watching after 30 seconds downloading, since moving to origin it's half an hour! Called them last weekend because I watch bike racing online. The first race of the season and I couldn't even load the page, never mind start the stream. Thought I'd check the speed on Speedtest.net and it couldn't even load that page. They had me unscrewing the faceplate on the wall data socket. The network guys in work said this is "busy work" to make it feel as though something is happening. Did a router reset which was annoying since I put my own password in it, so had to re-do all that again afterwards. Went through router settings and changed 2. Still the same, she tells me to try again all of a sudden and it was much better. Asked her if she did something her end, she said no. Trying to download on demand tv last night and there is no connection whatsoever. No Wi-Fi connection, no ethernet connection, thank goodness for 4g and smart phones. So mad. It came up again a couple of hours later, but it is only 6mb download speed, which it has been when it's been up since the start. With Sky it was 12mb+. Going to phone later today and see if they can get it working properly and then going to see about getting out of this contract. It's not fit for purpose so I don't know if they can hold you to a 12 month contract. I hope not, I'm not spending an hour every weekend on the phone to them.

Been with numerous ISPs since the 1990s, and I'm pretty clued up on internet/tech matters.

I moved to Origin in 2015 from O2 after sky bought them up,(Who wants to give money to murdoch?), and I do prefer to put my lot in with smaller independent ISPs, as so many have been gobbled up ofer the years.

For my first 2 year 78Mbps contract I had almost perfect service, top speed of 63Mbps which appears to be line limit, and which they informed me of before I joined, so was well happy with it.

Then at the end of June this year I renewed but with this time a 38Mb package, and unfortunately took up their "super saver" offer of paying upfront for the 2 years at a big saving. Shortly afterwards they moved from plusnet network to Talk talk, and as a LOT of people have since discovered the service has since plummetted.

The pattern of service for me is 36-38Mbps during most of the day, but every evening usually between 6-7pm to gone 11pm now suffer 5-6mbps and ping had rocketed from previous 30ms upto +110ms, so streaming and online gaming are now crippled.

They continued taking monthly payments from my account even though I'd paid upfront, although when I phoned to complain they did refund the money reasonably quickly so I cant complain too much, but it was only after I pulled them up about it.

Tech support used to be excellent on the odd occasion I had minor niggles in the past, but recently it feels that the company is struggling in all departments with poor or no tech support/ customer service response.

I REALLY want to support them, and up until the last couple of months would have had no problem recommending them, but it does feel as if their backs are now against the wall.

Origin, please get away from talk talk network...If I'd wanted that I would have paid them for it, they're currently £1 a month cheaper for their 38Mb package, but they are a poor company, if you cant get back to how you were you've lost me as faithful customer.

Been with them since June 2017, paid upfront for 12 months.
service keeps slowing down regularly or keeps cutting out completely.
C.S is a waste of time, can't even get through at times after holding on for over 45 mins.
twice after complaining i have been told they would phone back but never do.

First hurdle a 4 month delay because there was no fibre in the area "total crap" they kept hold of deposit and never advised there was a problem until i called them, my previous provider enjoyed over £200 extra cash as I was out of contract.
When service went live "months after agreed" it was slow, 1Mb speed download, 10Mb upload. Two agreed engineer visits and several hours call on the phone to there helpdesk, first engineer visit appointment never arrived, waste of time taking a day of work, second engineer visit confirmd the line had not been cleared proper from previous provider, Origin should have cleared the line first, another wasted day off work. All in all they said they would compensate a free month rental £25 "what a joke", 2 days off work, several hours on help desk lines and a 1Mb speed for 2months. Internet still has downtimes says authentication failed. Best of all they are starting the contract from the day service went live. Not when I made the agreement and paid deposit. Over 3 months gone past, still no compensated free month rental. Each month they say next month. Ram the refund and hopefully after talking with trading standard I can get out this contract and move to a reliable provider. My advice spend the extra couple£££££ on reliability. Rant over!

Total confusion from the beginning! We paid £158 for a whole year up front. Just wanted basic broadband for a holiday let so it seemed a perfect fit. The first router was faulty. The second was faulty.

Eventually got up and running. Speed not brilliant but just about acceptable. After a few weeks realised we were being billed for £21 a month. Rang to query and was told that the price had gone up as it had been upgraded to fibre. I didn't want or need fibre and I certainly didn't want to pay £21 pm for a service I'd already purchased for a year in advance!

I'm not convinced it is fibre at all. It's certainly no faster.

The worst bit is the time they take to answer the phones. I don't think I've ever got through in less than 3/4 of an hour. If it was my own residence I'd have cancelled it and asked for my money back.

Absolute trash. Line speeds of half what I used to get with Plusnet. When I tried to get their tech support to help, many hours were wasted with incompetent staff who can only read off a script, and when they reach the end of the script they just stop replying. Even when they said they were going to fix the line, nothing happened. It takes hours on their "live" chat for a 5 minute conversation, and they don't even bother reading your replies. Might as well talk to a brick wall.

Seriously - avoid origin like your life depends on it. They are the worst broadband providers I have ever had the misfortune of joining.

Please don’t go for the cheapest option .. I have regretted this decision the broadband is unreliable switched on and off all the time average speed for fibre up to 17mbs
I have never got near this speed the fastest was 10mbs
    Customer service ..not good
    Technical support better
Ombudsman complaint spurs them into action
Other than that you’ll be waiting a while for any kind of resolutions
You can’t leave even if you go abroad .. I went abroad for 5 months I still had to pay they will not terminate your contract
For any reason ? Very difficult company
Had talk talk, sky and virgin all better

Absolutely hopeless. Avoid this company because you will just be wasting your time before having to find a different provider. I placed my order on the 17th February 2017. I phoned Origin two weeks later (not my first call) for an update and they hadn't even put my order on their system yet! I was told that it would be done that day and that I would have an installation date within 72 hours. I heard nothing so I phoned them after the 72 hours had passed and they said my order had been cancelled and I would have to go to the back of the queue and wait another 10-14 days for an installation date! For 99p a month more, I'm going to Sky.

Truly awful support. Seriously, brain dead and extraordinarily slow. I have spent a total of NINE hours with their "live" chat team. After the first 3 hours they identified a fault on the line and told me it would be fixed in 48 hours. 3 weeks later and 6 more hours with support, nothing has happened. Every time I go back to support, the morons just read off the tech support script, and when I tell them repeatedly that I have already done this and they have already identified the fault, they just read the next line on the script. Their staff are incapable of independent thought - they should just use an AI bot, at least that could reply more than once every 30 minutes!

Truly, truly dreadful company. Avoid like your life depends on it.

Origin Broadband may seem attractive because of their low prices, and that's half the reason I took the leap, but it was honestly the worst mistake I ever made. While I like to take chances on smaller relatively unknown companies, this was one of the few times that decision has bitten me in the butt.

First, I'd be surprised if your connection remains stable for longer than a few weeks. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times our internet went offline without warning, sometimes for days at a time. This wasn't limited to just me, either, check Twitter, more often than not, huge regions of customers will be completely cut off without warning.

On the rare occasion it is online, connection speeds fluctuate no matter what time of day it is. This is likely due to the outdated tech that they call a "router". But hey, if you have a couple of hundred quid to throw their way, you can buy their more up-to-date router.

Oh, and their customer support, I kid you not, is the same person every time I've called. But don't worry, why not head on over to Twitter to express your concern? A few times I'd spoken to their customer service via Twitter who seemed to "solve" the problem for me (they didn't) and reimburse some of my bill for the inconvenience (they didn't) as well as correct a double-charge on my account (they didn't).

Oh and don't even dare Tweet at them directly with complaints about their terrible service because they'll just block you. Yep. Having simply tweeted them about losing connection (again) I went to check their page for a status update and low and behold, I'd been blocked. Bloody good customer service there. Ignore the problem and it'll go away.

You're right, I did go away, to another ISP.

TL;DR - Origin Broadband is a terrible company with unstable connection and abysmal customer service. I'd avoid at all costs even if the deal seems too good to miss.

I changed to Origin in January with a phone and broadband package.(I live in a rural area with a broadband speed that has a max of 3mb.)
The phone changed over as stated but the broadband did not. I phoned and was informed that Open Reach would change me over at midnight but this did not happen untill the next afternoon.
Overall I am very pleased with everything.
