Been with them 2 years, things stated off badly as they were given a month to sort out a new connection yet lost my phone number I was promised I could keep & ended up with no internet when we moved in.
Speeds OK until their 'Network Upgrade' were good, since then beyond dreadful, BT found line perfect & only a stone’s throw from cabinet. Every time I have had dealings with their admin such as buying a router for example they got it wrong, each & every time without fail.
They are ok as long as you doing have to deal with admin or tech support at all as it seems no one in the company communicates with anyone else – That is no exaggeration at all.
I had a problems a few weeks ago & waited over an hour to speak to someone (often longer) & in the end sorted out the problem myself!
I really do not like writing this review but having used the internet for well over 20 years they are by far the worst ISP (& maybe company of any sort) I have ever used (apart from RedHotAnt) I’ve now started migration to another ISP & will really, really be glad to see the back of Origin Broadband no joking. If I really, really, disliked (detested) someone I would recommend Origin to them.

As we're once again in our second hour of being on hold to Origin Broadband support I thought I'd use my time in purgatory more productively and write a review of the company.

We moved house in November of 2016 to find that our regular broadband provider didn't supply fibre to our new area. We'd been with Virgin for years and are heavy internet users, so we were worried when looking for a new service provider. We searched a few companies to see which were offering the best price for the available speeds in our area.

Enter Origin Broadband, a Yorkshire based ISP with seemingly fair prices. For some reason no other ISP, including Origin, offered a fibre connection to our city centre location. We eventually settled for an ADSL connection with Origin as they had the best prices and they were somewhat local.

The installation was all but hassle free, the long wait for the engineer to arrive, and the engineer not actually being able to do anything as the router took so long to turn up. The engineer arrived after 2 weeks to ready the house for the still absent router. He spent 5 minutes inspecting the BT wall outlet, then left while explaining that we could just 'plug it all in' when the router arrived. Finally the router arrived, and we did just that. Nothing. We spent around an hour on hold to support before being connected. Support took us through all of the correct router settings which the engineer was unable to set up. Then, after around 30 minutes of going through everything over the phone we were finally online.

For the first six months, excluding the painful adjustment from our old ~250mb/s download speed to a laughable ~18mb/s, everything was relatively stable. We'd have the occasional disconnect, but it was infrequent and understandable for an ADSL connection.

If the experience were to end there the stars awarded in this review would have held a solid 3 out of 5. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case. We've had such a bad service with Origin as an ISP that, for the first time in my life, I've made a point to sit down and review a company in the hopes that it saves at least one person from wasting their time and money as we have. For those of you still wondering, we managed to get through to first line support. We're now on hold to second line support after they couldn't help us.

A couple of months ago we started to experience our connection dropping out every 30-40 minutes within a 6 hour window starting around 6pm. Not only this, but our connection would bottom out when downloading files at a capped 256kb/s speed. This meant that, even if the connection stayed active, it would be virtually impossible to use until the download was complete, to the point where it would take 5-6 minutes to send a message on Facebook messenger.

In an attempt to fix the issues we called around 6 times in total. Each time on hold for around 2 hours, to the point where my housemate and I took 30 minute shifts of listening to the hold music as it was slowly driving us insane.

Over the numerous phone calls we were told during 3 of them to remove the 'test plate' from our BT wall outlet and record our connection and any drop-outs. They would then call us back 24-48 hours later to check in on us. We have never received a phone call from Origin.

We were also told that an engineer would be coming to visit, he never turned up.

We were told that, after following up about the engineer not arriving, that they were going to send us a new router. For some reason they believed that we no longer needed an engineer, they decided that a new router was the way to go. If the new router didn't work then they would once again attempt an engineer visit.

We were told that our frequent disconnects were the result of 'micro surges' in our area (apparently coming from street lights turning on on our street), despite us having all of the electrical equipment in our home surge protected, and the issues persisting over a 6 or so hour period.

We were told, in our most recent phone call, that the outages are to do with some issues that BT are having in our area. Which would explain the issue had it not being persistent for almost 2 months at this stage.

All of our phone calls were taken by different staff reading from our file, which apparently had all of our issues and the tests they'd already carried out. This would be believable if we weren't asked to carry out the same tests numerous times to lead to the same result, while at the same time being told that the issue was coming from a different place than the last Origin support member told us it was coming from.

I've given the customer service 2 stars as, while they are seemingly understaffed, the staff members themselves were friendly and dealt with our frustration in a reasonable manner. Their major let down was a lack of consistency. They could have told me straight that they had no idea where the issue was coming from and that they'd do everything they could to fix it, and that would have been fine. Instead I ended up being fed different information each time I picked up the phone.

I'd strongly advise anybody to avoid this company. I've been with numerous ISPs over the years. AOL, TalkTalk, Sky, BT, Virgin. Origin broadband are by far the worst in both product and service.

Not only do services not work as described when first entering into a contract, but their customer support when things go wrong is next to none. From what I can tell they're trying to be as cost effective as possible by providing a bare bones service and stripping customer support of the resources required to deal with the barrage of calls they get from customers who are left paying for something which doesn't work.

I really can't emphasis enough how awful Orign's service has been. It's increasingly inconsistent, dropping to below 300kb for days at a time (advertised as up to 17mb) and even just not working on and off over the course for several months.

They also claim 24 hour support, but my average wait time would be well over an hour every time (of which there were a lot).

For some reason, theybalso couldn't sort out the billing, which I had to call them about three times - can setting up a direct debut really be that hard?!

    Avoid like the plague.

Origin Broadband should not be in the market they put beautiful service on the net to get people to sign up but trust me is a trap.
Their policy is hidding you don't get to see before signing up.
You don't get that fibre speed they talk about and mostly the network go off for over an hour.
When you relocate they charge you and automatically signing up new contract (12-18 months)
When ending the contract they charge you huge sum even if their service is not yet activate in the property whiles you sign up you get charge.
What a way to make money

If I could zero stars then I would. Worst service provider I've ever had. Delivered a faulty router and only found out after 2 weeks of waiting for a service engineer. No internet during that time. 1~2+ hour waits on the phone to speak to any person. Now I've waited almost weeks for any person at Origin to cancel the contract. Avoid at all costs (and it will cost you in the short and long term). Complete shambles company for broadband and customer service!

Please do not make the same mistake I did and trust these reviews. I was stupid enough to sign up to a contract with origin for VDSL (fibre) broadband earlier this year and I have had nothing but trouble. It's a gamble of whether I'll get home and find my broadband is working or not. The service is absolutely terrible. I'm writing this now after having my broadband down for 3 days. I've just spent 50 minutes on hold to technical support to be told that it's a widespread problem. You will find that any time there is an issue, it is always Openreach's fault and never anything that Origin can do. I'd also like to add that I'm calling technical support at midnight here, and it still takes nearly an hour to speak to someone so I dread to think what it's like during the day. I've spoken to them on a number of occasions and wasted many hours on the phone, to always be told it's an Openreach issue and there is nothing they can do but wait. A courtesy email, call or text really would help if there is an issue, or even some kind of update on their website. Please Origin, get it together. Until then, avoid avoid avoid and just pay a little bit extra to go with a reputable supplier!

I took out broadband with origin as i heard through the grapevine they do not impose the dreaded Fair Usage Policy or Traffic Shaping at peak times like most of the big companies do.. throttling your connection right back..and i believe this to be the case.

I also opted for a useful static ip for almost no extra. However the compromise for me has been a consistant download speed of 900kb.. not even 1mb! A fifth of the speed the line is capable of. So only good for browsing and even that requires a router reset every week or so as all hangs. Terrible.

I've tried to stick this service out for almost 11 months now as not in much.. but now theyve just double the monthly bill for no reason. Enough is enough.. i wont be returning or recommending this to anyone.

I've been with Origin since March 17 and took out their basic broadband package. The set up and transfer from Sky was easy and cheaper. I've never had an issue with the broadband and always had constant speeds thus opted to go on the Fibre package for 24.99. Yes I have read the reviews on here and did question upgrading but like I said I've had a good broadband supply since March.

Okay, I was switched to fibre on Friday 15/09/17 but had no router delivered as the router originally supplied by them wouldn't work with fibre. I had called them on 11/09/17 and 16/09/17 stating I had no router and they said it was on its way. Obviously it wasn't. When I spoke to them Friday afternoon the bloke said it would be delivered by Monday 18/09/17. Why I was told in the week it was on the way I don't know.

Anyway it arrived today, plugged in but had download speed of 7mbs and upload of 14mbs? I called them and they checked my line and my settings but still no luck. They transferred me to a level 2 tech who straight away diagnosed the problem as BT Openreach not having switched my download speed to fibre on their systems. He put me on hold and called them. When he spoke to me again after 5 minutes we tested the speed and I finally got 29mbs download :). If the speed is constant like this I may upgrade again to the fibre max but we'll see.

So if Origin can sort out their router delivery issues and facts on the telephone then 5 stars to them. Excellent customer service skills and quick to get through but like I said they should have supplied me with the router before I was switched over. The tech guys are superb by the way 10/10.

Just an update. Ive been on Fibre now for a week and Im getting 36mbs download out of a max of 38mbs. Fantastic! Have no dropouts. Well done Origin. I even had a call in the week to see if all was working okay. 10/10

    READ AND BELIEVE EVERYONE.

I signed up and got charged. Not heard a word since (5 weeks) and no contract showing rights. Kept chasing (didn't have the long wait on hold I must admit) and kept getting told its an open reach planning problem. I pushed for info on this and have been told 3 times that they have contacted open reach and should get a reply in 48 hours - I never hear so after 72 hours I call again to be told the same.

The property is a conversion with 8 flats - the other 7 all have phone lines and broadband - plus I just called SKY and they instantly offered an install in 8 days time with . . . open reach!

Based on my experience and the reviews on here I have just requested a refund - I wait with baited breath as I paid £300 up front for a 2 year broadband deal - disgusting they have had this money for 6 weeks with no contact or effort to resolve. Couple this with the reports about speed and I jumped ship.

I suggest you don't get on board!!

I give 1 start because I can't give 0! Super slow connection! It took 6 MONTHS to have an engineer to fix an issue on the line. Never ending waiting time is you call the customer service that at the end is totally useless as they are not able to give any help. Of course, I recommend not to choose them!

I would say just about the worst in my experience in terms of customer service. Cheap though... It appears that most support are on training and have no clue what they are talking about. ADSL speed varies 3-6 mbps. Passable if there is no other choice at all. If there is and even if you are desperate go for like of TalkTalk, Plusnet

Do not become an Origin customer! This was/is the worst customer experience I have ever had. They managed only max 1Mbps (compared to Sky's min 2 at the same address) but refused to engage in a discussion about it. They sent me a deadline letter but then didn't engage with the Ombudsman who awarded in my favour a cancellation without penalty and full refund which they are now fannying about with, having paid only half. Just terrible and can't wait to be rid of them. They shouldn't be allowed to operate.

I have been in contract with Origin for almost exactly one year. Now scouting around to find an alternative or upgrade my package with Origin.

So many ISP's now have terrible reviews it is very difficult making a decision.

I was thinking of moving over to Plusnet but that also has terrible reviews no better than TalkTalk whom I was with before Origin, now that was a bad service and came away from them with relief.

Value for money is the biggest factor for most of us as it is very expensive now just to have the internet since dial up days, forced to pay exorbitant prices for line rental just to be able to receive internet at all.

Origin gave the wrong router log in information when I signed up to them, I went live on schedule, but because of the wrong router info waited needlessly for a week, had to call them and they talked me through setting up the router. Customer service was helpful and courteous, no complaints there, have not needed to call them at all since set up. It would surely be better to give a small guide with the router on how to set it up and with the correct information, yes?

I have had no problems with Origin, it does however loose connection at least once a day, randomly, but it does only last for a few seconds up to one minute only, TalkTalk lost connection endlessly where it became so frustrating I wanted to throw the router out the window, so very much a vast improvement, I know it should not cut off at all but I can handle a few seconds a day in comparison.
The worst issue I have with Origin in an overall reliable service is the terrible speeds, it states no throttling under any circumstance, but it does, we get 900kbs down at best to be shared, it often drops to a mere 15kbs if you go where they don't like you to go.
Honesty is fast becoming a myth on this planet!

I would recommend Origin because it is more stable than 'others', for better shareable speeds the package needs to be upgraded, it's not the cheapest either on a limited budget, but it look like they are all becoming quite expensive in the UK now, business loves to rob the Brits because the Brits just put up with everything because choice is no longer choice but a profit margin obtained from our pockets.

So now I must decide, Hyperoptic looks good, unfortunately I need a phone line for now so will look at them in the future.

Origin hide their expired contract fee's on package information until you purchase so could end up paying more than you are 'led' to think. I will probably stay with Origin and upgrade to fibre to boost the speed, I would have gone to Plusnet but the reviews have put me off.

I transferred to Origin Fibre Broadband from Plusnet Fibre and it was a shambles from the word "go". I live in Greater London, so it's not like I'm out in the countryside.

First they didn't dispatch my router or update me on the transfer date, so one day my Plusnet broadband just cut off without warning.

I called Plusnet to find out what was wrong (30 minute wait to speak to someone there) and they told me they'd transferred the line to Origin.

I didn't receive any indication from Origin or Plusnet that this was going to happen, plus I hadn't even received the Origin router, so I couldn't use that to connect. It's 2017, can they not send an email/text?

I called Origin (another 30 minute wait to speak to someone there) and I was told they had forgotten to tick a box to send me the router, so I would have to wait 2 days to receive that.

The agent gave me the credentials to connect to Origin with my Plusnet router, but I discovered that Plusnet lock their routers to their network, so if you change providers you have to bin their router, which is an utter waste.

I told the agent that my phone was not working anymore either and he said it would probably start working overnight, which never happened.

I received the router and plugged it in, but it didn't work. The phone still didn't work either.

Cue another call to Origin (30 minute wait time again) and the agent said there was something wrong with the line, so he transferred me to 2nd line support

I waited over 1.5 hours to speak to 2nd line support! Yes, not a typo, I had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes. After speaking to someone there it turns out the BT engineer didn't do his job properly and I would have to wait for another engineer to come out and fix it. So they could have arranged this already while I was waiting for the router since I already reported the problem day 1.

The next day the BT engineer arrived and told us the line had not been connected properly in the junction box, and additionally the line had been only set up for ADSL, not Fibre!

Called them again and they said it would take 3 weeks to get the line switched from ADSL to fibre! I tried to cancel and they say I will have to pay them a cancellation fee then for a product I didn't even purchase! I paid for Fibre and got ADSL!

I made a complaint to them 3 weeks ago and they still haven't replied even though they state they will reply with 10-14 days.

Absolute joke of a company which should be allowed to die.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

I ordered fibre optic from Origin nearly a month ago, and I still haven't received it. I've had no communication from the company, other than myself contacting them asking what the hell is going on. The people on the phone are very friendly, but I can't say they have been very helpful because I was told I was receiving my router "guaranteed the next day". Two days later I still haven't received it, I've phoned them and have been told it's because my Live Date hasn't been set yet. Well it's been a month Origin, what's the hold up? I had an engineer round yesterday for what I thought was my Live Date but have only discovered today after phoning enquiring about my router that that was just for my phoneline, not my broadband.
There's been no communication from them and I'm severely fed up. It's incredibly hard to set up everything you need to set up when you move into a new home without the use of the internet. It was the first thing I sorted out and it's now the last thing to be fixed.
I was recommended Origin from a family member but I would not recommend them to anyone else.

I have had problems with Origin Broadband from Nov 2016.
Took 1 month to get the broadband working. Numerous calls but always the same answer 'waiting for open-reach update'.
Escalated to managers but still no joy. The company never phones back and you never receive feedback. I have never received a contract from this company either.
Currently I am experiencing very slow speed and unstable speeds. 0.36mb to max 1.72mb download speed. Fault was found on the line and open-reach contacted me to advise it was fixed, told open-reach that speed was bad and was advised to raise with Origin. First report to Origin was 3 months ago, still not fixed. In the middle of this (July) I got a random phone call to say my payment from January was not made. (I pay by DD so do not know how January was not taken), Requested the call to be followed with an email (to make sure it was not a spam call) email never received. I assumed the call was spam but line speed reduced drastically. Calling Origin they advised my line was throttled due to outstanding balance, said I had requested an email but was told it was my problem not theirs. I have called again today to ask what is happening with my unstable line, 45 minute wait to get through to 1st line, was then told I would be put through to second line support, asked how long this would take was advised10 minutes, told the second line support that what I was told last time. He told me he could see the queue and it was only 10 minutes. minutes later I hung up.
I would advise anybody do not touch this company. The staff they have try there best but are not at all good. Many of the staff are quite rude. The company never calls you back.
I must have made in excess of 35 calls to origin since I went with them Nov 2016
, many I have given up on as I have better things to do than to wait 1.5hrs on a phone.I am just waiting for my contract to finish(which I was advised over the phone was 8th Nov as I have never had a contract I will have to take their word for it) I will never ever have any dealings with this company once my contract ends and encourage anybody who is thinking of going with them to pay extra and go elsewhere. A terrible terrible company

Emailed forum@origin-broadband.co.uk after complaint on trustpilot, still waiting.

I have an outstanding ticket with origin raised 27/07/2017 where my speeds are between 0.3 upload and 0.07 download.
I have sent the proof that I am getting errored seconds,
Want to leave but origin want 340 pound for the privilege of no service

Please avoid this company, time the ombudsman got involved, this company is a joke

Absolute scammers! Do not be fooled by their cheap prices as they'll find every little single way to add more to your bill. In the end it'll work out costing you more than some of the bigger broadband providers. They charged my card without me ever agreeing to the extra payments each month and when I tried to ask for a refund they'll point to the small prints on the website, which I can not find. Terrible customer service as well, takes about 40 mins to get through to a very rude woman on the phone telling me there's nothing she can do for me. Speed wise it's not fast enough to load a single YouTube video and good luck trying to watch a movie without it pausing every two minutes. Not to mention that the internet keeps disconnecting 3 times a day.

    Avoid avoid!

We switched to this company on March 2016 and, initially, they were quite good. They picked up calls in less than 2 minutes and, despite we wanted a Fibre connection, they offered us a temporary DSL until fibre was available in our area.

We paid 25£ installation fee and they sent us a standard DSL router, very basic and capable to connect no more than 3 devices all together. The average speed was 3Mbps so we could not navigate or watch videos, anyway they offered that connection for free.

After various calls and one-month wait, they arranged an appointment for fibre installation but the engineer did not show up so they arranged a new one. This time the engineer came and installed the fibre but the connection was very bad for the first three months. Further to that, we have an average 64Mbps download speed.

Last year we had an issue as the Council cut our connection to the fibre cabinet during some road works. We spent 10 days on the phone hearing lies from them and treated them to start a legal action before they finally sent an engineer. The engineer said to us: 'It is a 5 minutes work and if your company had sent us on that day, we could had fixed it on that day'. As you can imagine, we have been very upset to acknowledge this.

On August this year, our connection dropped while we were on holiday, leaving hour house exposed to burglars etc. as the security cameras could not connect to the internet. I had to spent 93 minutes on the phone to try to explain there was an external fault and, when finally the customer service answered, they denied this and the call dropped. I then started messaging them on social media end email and I got different ambiguous answers. At the end, they admitted the fault was external and fixed it.

I think this company may be good, if only they were more customer focused. No one want to spend 1 hours on the phone without being able to resolve any issue. They do not reply to emails. They do not acknowledge complaints and even receiving an answer on social media has become impossible.

I think they should not be allowed to trade until they will resolve this.

Experienced some major hick-ups during the set-up process, firstly, there was no confirmation of service switching and a set-up date (resolved by messaging via facebook), secondly they didn't send me a password to connect to my router, so while I had full connection, I had no way of actually using the internet. Having said that, after 30 minutes on hold I got connected to a lovely bloke on their tech team who immediately issued me with a password. A speed test shows that it is well below what was advertised, but I see absolutely no difference between Origin and my old provider, so as long as I can browse and stream (which I can without any issues), I am a happy customer.

DON'T SIGN UP WITH THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY.THEY SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE. The bad reviews absolutely reflect my experience. 5 weeks after paying the obligatory first instalment I STILL don't have broadband. Takes hours to get through to technical support and customer 'service' pass you from pillar to post. They are the worst company I've ever dealt with.please heed our advice and avoid at all costs. They are breaking the law and I'm going to report to Ofcom.

I am afraid after 3 months I went back to BT , a young company trying to compete without the infrastructure to deal with the customer traffic they have generated. to be fair they are nice people who do not have the systems and structure to deliver a capable customer service . Avoid until they get it right .

Don't EVER buy broadband from this company!

I don't know how I missed all the bad reviews on Origin as it's all I can seem to find now when I search them online.

Origin have taken over a month so far to set up my broadband and every time I call to complain I have to wait on hold for one hour minimum!

They first blamed it on our previous ISP and sent out a technician to fix it. Technician tried saying he'd finished and asked for a signature from my parents to say he'd completed the work, but they asked him to first test the wifi on my dads phone which of course didn't work. He then said it must be a faulty router and said we'd have to call to order another one (I can't understand why he couldn't just request this for us).

Still no internet access and I'm so annoyed that I chose this terrible company...

    Avoid at all cost!!
Avoid at all cost!!! We are with Origin since January and unfortunately have 12 months contract with them. The service is so bad we are unable to open emails, talk on Skype and not even dreaming about streaming ANYTHING at all. The connection is dropped every few minutes making it very difficult to buy anything online because I never know if the payment will go through or not or maybe I will pay twice. Not even dreaming of using it for work which makes my life hell. I am disabled so going out to work from places with wifi is quite a task. When we spoke to customer service to try to resolve the issue we were told it's not their fault but the phone line is rubbish so nothing can be done. This, of course, is not true because we spoke to previous tenants and they also used a basic broadband before with no problems. We were charged around £70 to set up the socket by an engineer, we were not told about it and found out from bank statement...He left lots of cables poking out and maybe that's an issue yet we are unable to find out as Origin Broadband will not cooperate and are not interested in looking into it. Luckily we have only just over 3 months left and will be finished with them soon. NIGHTMARE.
