I find it pretty good as I received 20MB for the price of 8MB on special offer. I do find the PC Guard package does tend to slow you down a bit, but works quite well. Robin

I hate Virgin Media's Broadband!!!!!!! Im only 17 and not working atm so I cant change the people that my parents are paying for as the provider but if I was I would go with anyone else apart from Virgin Media. As of now, I have a 20MB connection, the day I recieved it I was getting 10MB, then 12MB and now 2 months after im down to 2.4MB. Its a joke if you ask me!

(BTW im new to the forums so hi ^_^)

Angry Re: How do you rate Virgin Media

when they were called blueyonder they were ok, the customer service wasnt too bad, well it was much better than it is under the virgin logo, for christs sake just let me speak to someone that i can actually understand, not an accent that sounds like its via india, and someone that actually inderstands PC's or latency rates (pings). when i say i know what im talking about with internet connections, i know what im talking about.
now they introduce speed capps if you hit 6gig between 10am-3pm or 3 gig between 4pm-9pm, but they refuse to lift the speed retrictions at 9pm, no it is capped for 5 hours, so the other evening i hit my 3 gig limit at 8.55pm and was speed capped until 1.55am.
they have or should have the ability to let everyone go full speed all day every day, thats the whole point of fibre optic broadband.
when i signed up years ago it was advertised as no speed capps or download limits.
fair usage policy ??? my ass is it, i pay top whack so i can use it to the max, if others want top speeds all day long then dont be a cheepskate and pay for it like the rest of us.
but no virgins way out of this hole is to tell us that we actually pay for a 4Mb service many moons ago and the 20Mb service is a freebie from them so they are not breaking any laws by capping the speeds back down to 4Mb.
Virgin you suck.

Ugh, had a weekend of problems with Virgin Media, starting with the abysmal upload speeds I'm getting from them.

I have proper broadband, not ADSL, and still only get a maximum of 56kbps upload speeds, despite my package (10mb) having an advertised upload speed of 500kbps.

Now, a 500kbps upload speed is bad enough when your download speed is 10mbps, but we're not getting anywhere near the advertised speed! Then to top it all off, after a while they drop the upload speed down to around 14.5kbps! Each time I try to upload it starts off at around 56kbps, then after an hour or two drops down to around 14.5kbps.

If I call Virgin Media then (after listening to pre recorded 'advice' on turning my computer off and on *sigh*) I get through to an Indian call centre and speak to some guy that is clearly reading from a script, who incoherently strings words together and says "we don't support upload speeds"... whatever that is supposed to mean.

They are clearly throttling my connection back, probably in the false assumption that I'm illegally uploading music or something, but won't ever admit it or do anything about it. Instead, they blame my computer, or the server that I'm uploading to and give me the number for a PC help line! Naturally, this just leaves me annoyed and insulted, as I know it isn't the server, nor is it my computer. It's them.

After all this shoddy service, I turn on the TV to find that the Virgin Media TV service isn't working either. Genius.

So yes, I didn't exactly vote favourably in the poll.

Since I joined the 50Mb service, pretty well as soon as it became available, I have never had an outage. Speed tests are almost invariably between 50 and 53Mb. Customer service has always got me results. I really appreciated the 5Mb trial here in Coventry, so can't wait for upgrade.

Upgrade to 5Mb has now arrived.
