I am on Virgin Broadband 20Mb (£40 per month ) From 2pm till about 1am i am getting speeds of 2Mb -- i have had 2 engineers round and all they tell me is that speeds can drop when alot of people are on . I expect speed to drop but can i be expected to pay for 20Mb when from the time i am amake i can only get about 2Mb

If you read the terms and conditions from any provider they will say that speeds are "up to", even Virgin Media Cable which isn't affected by distance like trad ADSL.
It sounds like you may be being hit for being in the top 5% of downloaders though, is your download usage really really heavy? |

thanx freddy for reply -no my usage is not realy high just use to browse internet and play on xbox 360-- i do not download music or movies and when i asked virgin support they told me if i had been hit on the heavy usage thing my download from 3-9pm would go down to a steady 5Mb and i only get 1-2 mbs

Well if you've had engineers round and they have found nothing wrong then it sounds like it must be a congestion problem as they suggest. Not sure what else you can do without changing suppliers, but I know that is an expensive business moving off Virgin Cable as you'll need to buy a BT line in.
