Default Weird connection speed issues

I was wondering if anyone has experienced the following problem.

I have 1 BT socket in my home and if I connect just my router it connects at about 4300k which for my area is about right. If I then plug my phone into the same socket (other side of my filter) the connection speed drops to 2900k then if I add my sky plus telephone connection this drops further to 1200k.

All of these speeds are from the Gateway Status screen on the router.

I have tried 3 filters and the speeds are consistent. I have had BT test the line and they say it is fine. They have even checked the internal wiring and said it was the extra socket we had, but this is now completely disconnected and the speeds are exactly the same.

It seems to be that the more I connect to the line the lower speed I get which seems to be a line fault, but if BT come out again and they say it's not they are going to charge me £120!!

Thanks in advance for any help ;o)

Hi Darren,

What you describe is not ordinary behaviour.

Have you tried talking to Eclipse technical support about this matter?

Are you using the same telephone in all tests?

I hope this helps.

hi,

There is definitely something which is causing your sync rate to drop.

try the following, but this issue may be with the socket itself.

1. you said your speeds drop when you add your phone, so on the filter where you add a phone, instead add another filter, then connect the phone to the 2nd filter (make sure the broadband is still on the first filter) this is sometimes called double filtering. it doesn't fix your issue, but it can help with reducing the noise on your line.

2. when you are connecting your sky, are you using a filter there too? - if not, try connecting you sky through the filter. All sockets which have a device connected to them must have a filter connected to them to separate the broadband signal and the phone signals.

also try connecting an alt phone, and make sure the base unit (if cordless) is away from the router. you could be getting some interference.

hope this helps.
