Re: Installation of NETGEAR Router
TalkTalk should provide you with all of the information you will need to set it up correctly. I imagine that the router still has the settings stored in it from your previous ISP (AOL). To remove these, it is probably worth doing a factory reset - there should be a small button located on the back of the router. Press this is with a suitable tool. You may need to hold it in a while.
I've no personal experience of broadband via cable, as mine is through a BT line, and I have a modem router. It may be necessary to log on to the router and change some settings. To do this, the router will ideally be connected to your PC, with the network cable supplied. You will then need to fire-up a web browser page, and type the router's IP address into the address bar. This is normally 192.168.0.1. This should bring up a box asking for username and password. By default, the username is "admin" and the password is "password".
Once in, there will be a menu displayed on the left-hand side, with an option to input your network settings. All settings can be, and should be, provided by your ISP.
If you get stuck, I suggest calling the Netgear helpline, which I have used in the past when I had a netgear router. You end up speaking to somebody in America, but they are really very helpful.
