Default switching isp's

am thinking of going from aol to plusnet. am at end of 2 year contract and going to monthly plan at plusnet. if i do then would have to buy plusnet modem as they claim that aol modem (netgear dg834g) would be blocked? by aol. is this possible?

Some ISPs do give away what's known as a "Locked Down Router". These are routers that only let you connect to one ISP only.

Before you run out and buy a new router, it may be worth while doing a google search for "AOL locked down router", also try setting it up on a friends internet line just to make sure it is locked down!

According to PlusNet's website, all PlusNet deals come with a 'Free easy setup wireless router', so there's no reason to continue to use the AOL modem once you've moved over.
