Default Virgin Media 20MB connection - getting 2MB?

Can anyone please tell me why, after 2 months of having a 20MB connection with Virgin Media, I am only getting a maximum of 2.4MB? First month I had around 10-12MB and now this month its plumetted to 2MB, I would rather go with BT or some other company like that but I am not the one that pays the bills so could someone please give me an explaination to why this is happening? I know that Virgin Media put speed caps on their internet for big internet file downloaders but today I have downloaded a maximum of 1GB and for 20MB users it caps at 3GB.

Is it constantly at 2.4Mb through the day? or are you only being throttled at peak times?

Yesterday I was constantly at 2.4MB from 10am GMT until 11:45pm GMT. But this morning for some reason I was at 18MB and download speed of 2.4MB. lol

Off subject here: Is it true Virgin Media are boosting speeds of 20MB users to 50MB?

Sounds like you got hit by the cap for a day and was throttled.

50Mb broadband? they are trialling it I hear, don't think they'll automatically boost everyone though, they'll want dollars for it.

Consider yourselves lucky, we're on 20mb Virgin, and we only get 2.3mbps MAX, then if it gets capped it goes down to about 500kbps.... a guy from virgin came today did NOTHING to help... any sugestions?

I have had the same issue for months now. Plug another PC or Laptop into your modem and do a speed test. A virgin engineer did this for me after months of me complaining and guess what - he got 20Mb. This means it is my PC.

Now I need to know what is wrong as I can not figure it out.

20Mb = 2.5MB

Mb = Megabits

MB = MegaBytes
