Default Orange Home Max

Have recently upgraded my broadband (initially with wanadoo) to Orange home max for the benefits of cheaper telephone costs and improvement of broadband speed. However, as with many others on this website I am not alone to find out that to date there has been no noticable increase in broadband speed.

My postcode is TS25 5HZ and router is fixed directly from the house incoming socket with only my laptop connected. My exchange at TS24 7BL is approx. 2.5 km away. Download speed approx 1.9 Meg and upload speed around 0.2 Meg.

Just out of interest my parents have gone with Sky and live a further 2.5km further away from the exchange at TS25 2LA. down load speed 2.6 Meg and upload speed around 0.28 Meg.

How is this possible??????

I can only hope as I am still waiting for my phone service to change to orange and that my broadband speed is still yet to be reset/ increased, although unlikely.

I will wait until my phone service is changed before taking this matter further with orange.

The orange customer services has been helpful in responding quickly to my query but advice to date poor. The home phone help line could only say that the change to orange will happen soon?, It has been almost 4 weeks now! The slow speed or at least no improvement to existing speed was only answered by some written hints which is based upon reconnecting the router and restting it to factory settings but as I have just received it new hows that going to change matters????

Look forward to any advice and intend to contact orange customer services again shortly.

Carl

Well you live on the Hartlepool exchange and your parents on the Greatham exchange so you can't directly compare your speeds.

Your parents should be receiving up to 6.5Mpbs compared to your maximum of 4.5Mpbps so I reckon you have the better deal out of the two

Thank you for the reply, I did not realise an exchange was at Greatham.

Resetting your router in the morning when the exchange is quiet can sometimes lead to a better speed. Leave the router off for over 30mins so that when it is turned back on and connects to the exchange a resync will occur.

As I go online at home in the evening I switch off my router. THe guidance provided by Orange suggested this also but again as the live box is new there has been no improvements for speed increase.

I'm thinking my phone line may be capped or tagged but will need to contact BT to find out.

If so this may answer why Orange have yet to change my phone account for Home Max package (after 4weeks of waiting).

Guess what, Orange Customer Services can not get access to my account and suggest calling their Home phone Services Team yet again. I have sent them a detailed query so you would think they could pass it on.

Leave your router on 24 hours a day.. you need around a 10 day continuous period for the isp to be able to work out your maximum stable speed. This could be a cause of your problem.
