Red face I am with Tiscali and coming to the end of my contract...

Hi,

I am coming to the end of my 18 month Tiscali contract and I have heard that Tiscali (and Pipex) are pulling out of the UK market http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02...l_off_confirm/ so I am looking to move (before I am pushed). I have, generally, found them to be OK, but the most speed I can get with them is about 3Meg (although I pay for "up to" 8Meg) and I have never been capped (I regularly download LOADS for work).

I would have picked TalkTalk, as they are my phone provider, but their "free" broadband (I have heard) is not reliable and those that have lost their connections are not given compensation, because the service is "free". Also, TalkTalk block VPNs.

I need to use a VPN, as I work at home and need to connect to the office.

If I could do, I would just pop in the letters V-P-N in the search box above, but this search term is under the 4 character minimum limit and fails. Also, there is nothing in the Broadband site that refers to the features that are disabled in each Provider.

Does anyone know of another broadband provider that will NOT stop me VPN'ing and has a high download limit?

Regards,

QuietLeni

Well *if* Tiscali did leave the UK they wouldn't just turn off their subscriber base, they'd sell up and go with someone else. You can always stay with Tiscali for now if they aren't causing you any triuble and then cancel and move at anytime as you won't have locked yourself into a contract.

Thanks Freddy. I have investigated O2 and I heard (from one Sales Person) that they DO allow VPN's this person also told me that if I topped up my O2 Pay As You Go phone £10 every 3 months, that I would get a £5 off each month.

When I rang back, the Sale Person told me that they did NOT allow VPN's and that the £5 discount was invalid on Pay As You Go.

Which one spoke with forked tongue?

Basically, I want to leave Tiscali and get a better deal. I think that O2 can give me this and I have heard that their Customer Service is the best.

Anyone on O2 can confirm this?

Thanks in advance,

QuietLeni

I'm not 100% sure on the VPN's. But all the contact we have had with O2 and the details on their website show that the £5 per month discount does apply to PAYG mobile customers.
