I was with them for some years and the general service was fine, but when I decided to leave they tried some very devious stuff to mess me up. I reported them to OFCOM in the end.

I hope that my reply shows the positive and negative experience I had to Tiscali.

Have been with Tiscali for years, but am now quitting. My '8 Mbps' service is currently giving me less than 50 (yes 50!) kbps.

The parent company in Italy appears to have filed for bankruptcy a few weeks back - Sky and Carphone Warehouse have been considering buying. But... don't hold your breath.

Pipex was taken over by tiscalli.Tiscalli swopped over there isp servers with pipex.Thats why pipex is now no good.
Pipex and tiscalli are going bankrupt,no banks will give them anymore money,So even as your reading this, they could be closed up for good.
I was with pipex for years, they were good, until tisscalli stepped in.I left pipex because for poor speed, and disconections all the time.Im now with O2 16mb broadband no download limit with adsl+2.Just £14 a month.Every time i do a speed test, its always between 14.5 - 12 mb broadband speed, with 900k to 1.5mb upload speed.O2 use LLC. O2 also own BE broadband and bt own O2.

Angry Re: Tiscali

I can only echo the details of the posts that have gone before me. I was with thm for over 4 years. Then it all went pear shaped. I complained and got an OK service for a couple of months then it was service as usual. DO NOT USE TISCALI. They may welll be a big player in the ISP market, but that is due to buyouts and not the service they provide. I have moved to BT, cost me more but at least I get a reliable service. Oh and make sure you cancel any direct debits as they will keep taking their money even after cancelling both via e-mail and over the phone. one word USELESS.

I signed up to Homechoice who were brilliant until Tiscali bought them. I upgraded my Tiscali package to include all calls and BT rental about 10 months ago. Six months down the line I found that they hadn't succesfully transferred me away from BT. They spent about the next three months trying to do it but now I cannot get anybody there to talk to me.

So the upshot is that I have been paying both BT and Tiscali for the same service and still do not know whether they have transferred me. I was promised a refund and have sent all the BT bills to them but now I only get automated responses to my emails.

On top of that I lose connection to the internet after about an hour every time I use it and am sick of having to constantly reboot.

I am about to stop the DD once I can decide who to go with next. Any suggestions?
I found Tiscali TERRIBLE. No problems so far after several months with Sky 8megabit/sec.

Don't click on his link, don't go to Tiscali ( I am just trying to leave them).
Do you think that if enough people leave Tiscali, there may a possibility that they will be able to look after the few remaining customers properly? It would have to be a lot, I suppose.

Anyone having trouble (repeated unsuccessful attempts) with Tiscali (etc.) not refunding money taken (eg by direct debit) by mistake or illegally should "send in the bailiffs" themselves. It might be more costly but this cost also should be borne by Tiscali and included with the demand. Ask a solicitor if you are unsure how to go about it and whether it is worth pursuing (I've always found solicitors to be surprisingly good value for money). If, according to the solicitor, there is a case of fraud to answer (ie the company knows or has been informed - proof needed - that they have overcharged and still refuse to refund), the Police are duty bound to follow this up. If the Police DO refuse, and if after dealing with the Professional Standards department of your regional police force, there is no action by them, the next resort is private criminal prosecution, with penalties identical to those received when the Police prosecute. These are some of the formal ways to solve your problems but be like a ferret - don't let go until you are fully compensated. nb: Make sure that Tiscali (etc.) know in advance (on every communication) that they will have to pay for ALL of your legal / solicitor's fees and give the message that the longer they hold out the more it will cost them. They have the choice of compensating you now (very low cost - good choice) or after legal action (very high cost - bad choice and less likely to be opted for).
Remember:
1. EVERYTHING IN WRITING - NO telephone calls
2. EVERYTHING MINIMUM OF RECORDED DELIVERY - (I often use Special Delivery for special comms. to help get the message across)
3. KEEP A HARD COPY in addition to anything on electronic media (which IS vulnerable !)
Hope this helps.

Angry Re: Tiscali

I have found Tiscali to be very bad, and their ability to respond to my complaint about very bad speed is totally unacceptable.

I no longer believe they have any real intention to fix a speed problem that has existed for 4 months.

I am in the process of leaving them.

DO NOT GO NEAR TISCALI.
