In new build properties since December 2008, BT have stopped installing standard Master Sockets and are instead using new External Network Terminating Equipment boxes aka a XNTE. This is outside the property and is designed to allow engineers to easily test the master socket without bothering the householder. It uses a non-standard plug that is not intended to be accessed by consumers.
If yours is an older property, you may not have the standard split front panel BT Master Socket, the front panel may be indistinguishable from secondary sockets. If this is the case, you should be able to identify which is the master socket by unscrewing the front panel and looking for the presence of a large yellow ring capacitor.
