Hey guys, i have a problem! My internet at home is EXTREMELY slow (were talking like 0.4 megabits a second), and being a person who uses the internet a lot its driving me insane!
I have just come from a place which was around 10mbits/s so you can see why i feel its REALLY slow. I have just attempted to get virgin media installed (fiber optic) as my phone lines are old. They said yes it can be installed....4/5 months later they give up saying it cant! DAM, now im back to square 1. So now im stuck with my old internet, my current ISP is TalkTalk (should be upto 8mbits/s) Now i know my area can get faster internet as a house has been build oposite in the last couple of years and they are getting around 3-4mbit/s (which is much faster then us) According to SamKnows i have a few broadband suppliers available Do you think its worth changing ISP's as they may be known as bad ISPs? Worth getting a new phone line in? Im desperate to get better internet but im not sure what direction to go! Thanks |

'Up to 8Mbps' is a headline speed, but you'll only ever be given the maximum speed your line can achieve, which depends on your distance from the telephone exchange (in cable length). If your line's rated for something considerably higher than 0.4Mbps then you should ask TalkTalk technical support to run a line test and determine if there's a fault that they or BT Openreach can fix. Alternatively you could try signing up for O2 Broadband LLU or BE Broadband as those are available on your exchange and come out top in speed tests and customer surveys for reliability and customer service. Note though, you'll only get a speed boost from their ADSL2+ LLU service if you're currently rated to get higher than 3.5Mbps from ADSL Max broadband, as the majority of the benefit goes to users closer to the telephone exchange (in cable distance). If your line's rated at 1Mbps or below, you'd be better off going with an ISP that's good at supporting problem lines and has award winning customer service, such as PlusNet Broadband. I hope that helps, if you're still confused about what's the best option for you, we offer a Free Expert Broadband Consultation service. |
