I subscribe to Sky's Unlimited 17Mb ADSL package and I'm lucky enough to live less than a mile away from the exchange. My Sky Hub syncs at over 23Mb down and 1.2Mb up. My actual line speed is about 20.8Mb down and 1.1Mb up which is a limit of ADSL overheads.
Providers can only advertise an upto speed that 10% of their customers receive, they used to all claim upto 24Mb. Providers are still sending the full 24Mb so some customers such as myself will get faster than the advertised speed.
It's only gone down twice in a year, both of which were due to power cuts knocking every house/business out in the area.
The Sky Hub that is provided is pretty appalling if I'm honest. I can sit less than a metre away and the Wi-Fi signal is terrible, so much so that I paid out of my own pocket for a cable router. Sky claim that these hubs have "unbeatable" Wireless signal yet the most complained about thing with Sky is the poor Wi-Fi connections. To top it off the hub isn't the prettiest of things, it's finished in glossy black which is codeword for "I attract finger prints, dust, hairs and more!" and it gives you absolutely no information at all.
The lights on the hub are constantly solid, no flashing to indicate activity or anything. God help you if your paranoid and think someone has hacked your hub, you'll be on the built-in interface checking the attached devices every 5 minutes!
Amazingly, in this day and age, the hub is also only b/g/n and doesn't even feature 5GHz, gigabit Ethernet or even a USB port like most other providers for NAS.

would be ok if it actually worked. although it is on 99% of the time, if you're doing anything that requires a semi decent connection, forget about it.
The lag spikes are horrendous. Making gaming almost impossible. You could be seeing someone freeze the randomly teleport about the place for up to 5 seconds. A typical ping to a european server would be around 78 which isn't that bad, but it can jump to >600 for 10's of seconds at a time. Videos are a constant annoyance too. With streaming anything even remotely HD before the lag kicks in and it then tries to load standard def. This repeats over and over again causing terrible stutter.
Combined with the pretty poor wireless signal from the router and the money that they charge to bundle in with other services I really cannot recommend this to anyone.
Other friends in different towns and even my own also complain of the same problem.
Utterly terrible

Conducted a ping test over a period of weeks. My best line speed was under 2MB. This is disgusting, I do pre-work from home and can't even send it to school. I have to drop it on memory sticks.
Funny thing is, after doing a test it goes up for a couple of days. Almost like they know I'm checking up and so they turn something up.

It's far too slow and Sky have always told me it's the best I can expect as I am too far away from the exchange. What they failed to tell me as your test has proven is that its the best I can expect from them.

Truly truly hopeless. Customer service is an absolute joke, and "broadband" speed lucky if it's over 0.2mb. A year I put up with unusable Internet.
Router you get supplied is not good, also using out date components. Take your money elsewhere.

Shocking is the only thing I can say. Do not go with sky for phone or broadband. Our broadband hardly ever works our phone is cracking. We have phoned and phoned sky they have done nothing. We need an ads filter that didn't work. Line checks all the time, tests on the line . Need a new router £70 that didn't work. Basically tough 14 years of sky and we get told tough. I have tonight cancelled my direct debit and contacted virgin. £10 cheaper fibre optic. 2 new boxes and no call out fees. Goodbye sky .

We were promised and quoted no less than 30MB/s internet speed when entering this contract and it has not once gotten higher than 10Mb/s. This doesn't sound that awful until you then realize that the average speed we have actually received is 10-50Kb/s which is just ******* absurd.so naturally we have tried to cahnge provider early out of the contract and due to the contract having failed on all sides we were promised a refund for the last 3 months and no cancellation fee, excellent i thought. Turns out what they didnt tell us was that isnt something they do and are now trying to charge us £700 for leaving a 12 month contract 3 months in. we are still only getting 50Kb/s at peak times for a family of 4.
DO NOT GET THIS INTERNET IT IS THE WORST PROVIDER OUT THERE.

My internet was dropping a couple of times a day. The tech support guys tried to help, but eventually said there was nothing they could do and that a couple of dropouts a day was normal and caused by "active line management". Luckily I'm out of contract so I'm moving to another provider, and am actually going to save money.

Just moved broadband to SKY after becoming increasingly unhappy with my BT service (drop - outs, slow etc.) and their average speed of around 7mbps. I found the whole process very painless and simple. I called them yesterday as I was finding the connection speed a bit erratic and a lovely man spent an hour helping me work through a few things until the problem was resolved. We now average 12.4mbps with zero drop outs so a vast improvement on BT. I've been with Sky for TV since 1990 and I've always found them to be very helpful but perhaps I've just been lucky. Anyhow,I'm happy with my broadband so far and I'm glad I left BT.

Absolute rubbish and over priced. Once your offer period is over the price rises to almost £36 a month but the download rates are almost zero and all they do is press you to buy Sky TV endlessly. DO NOT GET SKY BROADBAND there are so many better providers out there who aren't just using poor service and poor broadband to upsell TV

Sky fibre max... more like own brand fibre cereal. Sky has been going downhill for years. Broadband is patchy at best and has consistent drops during congested periods. When it works, it works and we get 40mb down, but too often the internet cuts out completely or reaches download speeds below 1mbps. We have had Openreach visits 6 times now, and no matter how many times they "repair the line", "install copper into the home" "changing your microfilter" the service never improves because the throughput of customers causes too much network traffic congestion!
They may not throttle your speeds, but there is no need to throttle them if Openreach is not good enough to support network infrastructure on old lines. We are also having no ends of problems with our Sky Q box. Constant crashes and black screens of death, a Spotify app that when used crashes the entire box, channels just stop working for no apparent reason and the box needs unplugging from the wall to get it working again. Ridiculous and will be leaving soon.

My TV has a problem with the satellite signal. Just called them and the early a technician can come is in 11 days!! ELEVEN DAYS!!! I wanted to cancel everything because besides this they took £20 on the direct debit wrongly. And they told me I can cancel but I would have to pay early termination fees!!
But if I'm 11 days late paying them, They would cancel my service... it's not very fair to the customer right? So I have to do all my contractual obligations in time, or I'll be punished, but sky can take as long as they want to fix a problem.
Being 9 months pregnant, it's not easy for me to move, básica all I can do is watch TV. And now I'll be 11 days looking at my walls, after paying £120 to sky!
This is awful awful AWFUL customer service. And I'm not happy at all. In 4 months I'm cancelling everything! I don't want it even if they give it for free.
Do not recommend!!!
Never had a problem with talk talk before moving to sky!
It's disgusting this service!!

Worst. There was an incident when the internet went out and my sis in law called Sky. They - according to our contract- was supposed to send a person out to fix any issues, however in order to qualify for that we had to open up the router and check for issues. So i opened up the router and started explaining what I was saying to the guy and pressing here and there to solve the issue. This is my first source of complaint because not everyone knows how to open up a router. When my sis in law was told to do that she got furious, and was lucky I was able to step in.
The next problem we experienced was now- the winter time. The internet would literally for the whole day go out completely. It's connection is horrible as well. My phone cannot connect to the router either.
My friends in the area in Barking are also experiencing the same issue. For me it seems that it doesn't suit my area, but having looked at the comments here i can see it is an issue with the product itself. Appalling. And i have to wait for my contract to end in April!

I applied for Sky when I moved into my new place. With the excitement of having a big company as a Broadband provider.
When transferring the line over they found a fault and told me an engineer would have to come the next day when I was working the next day. I called up Plusnet to see if there was a fault on the line and was told there was no fault (This was lie 1).
So I cancelled my contract before I could be mugged off by this company they said I would have a FULL refund in 3-5 working days. After this time I recieved no money back from them and told them I would get the money back my October and there is no chance of doing this earlier. I did tell them I was promised I would get it back within a couple of days. (This was lie 2), in the embarrassment they said they would try and do it within two weeks.
Two weeks came. I called them up and they said it will come by the 17th September but apparently as I owe them a bill payment in advanced and bearing in mind I have not used their Broadband service one bit I would be only entitled to the £6 which is an insult (lie 3).
To add insult to injury I have spent a lot of money using my 4G network on my phone. I have to check my emails from work on my phone. I told Sky this and the agent said I was only entitled to use Sky for personal use when its up to me what I do with my broadband. I told this agent that I would take them to court if I do not get the money back and he did not seem to care or take the matter further. In fact I asked to speak to a manager and he told me I would have to wait 24 hours before I could speak to one when I have spoke to managers from Sky straight away previously (lie 4).
AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. LIE, AFTER LIE, AFTER LIE JUST TO MAKE MONEY.

I recently relocated from Darlington to Barnard Castle County Durham so I had to switch from Virgin Media to SKY (SKY fibre Max). Online SKY assured me that I would receive between 57 & 79 Mbs bb speed; I only receive an average of 40 Mbs! After complaining to SKY they sent out an 'Openreach' engineer to check my phone line-both inside the property & from the property to the BT cabinet & he stated that the phone line could not provide a bb speed any faster than 47 Mbs. As I stated previously, I was originally with Virgin Media for 20+ years & over the past two years I was assured of receiving 200 Mbs bb speed-yes, 200 Mbs & guess what, I received 200 Mbs bb speed!

Sky are by far the worst I have ever dealt with. I usually don't write reviews but this company were exceptionally bad so I felt I had the need to.
I set up a date with Sky to install my internet, I waited 2 weeks and took the day off work only for them to not show up. I was proactive enough to call them several times before the installation date to confirm they were still coming and each time they said yes. Either they have a terrible system in place or they have very incompetent workers. An hour after they were supposed to arrive I spent 1 hour on the phone only to be told an engineer was never supposed to come out. Taking into account the money I lost from not going into work plus the many phone calls i made to them, I made a very big loss indeed. I decided to go with Talk Talk who have given me a detailed description of when they plan to arrive and what date my router will be here. I will never again go to Sky and I will never recommend this company to anybody.

Been with sky for over 20 years been a loyal customer never missed any payments on any months for the whole 20years.
2 years ago BT informed me that fiber broadband was open to my home. I contacted sky and taken out the fastest broadband and a new TV service with them to revive nothing but trouble with the broadband dropping out and not working, having to rest all the broadband up to 3 times a day some days. I contacted sky and they refused to give me a new router and my mum herself had to pay for a new box out of her own money Evan though we was still in the 18 month contact (2 months in). The contract is up for a renewal and we have cancelled the TV services due to no used to pay for it. We paid 75 pounds per month for broadband and TV. We then got quoted 45 pound for broadband services alone, I find this unfair and not loyal to a customer that was been with for over 20 years. Other customer I know had the brand new sky Q 4 boxes, full tv packages, and fiber broadband all for 80 pounds per month. Sky's have no loyalt to their existing customer what so ever. The customer services is very poor and the manger I spoke to called Donna is the rudest person to speak to and wouldn't advise anyone to talk to her. Sky is terrible and their service and customer services I've very poor aswell!! Stay away people... my policy is now cancelled and won't be going back to them. Moving provides. Hope no one else experiencing this.

My sky broadband is now getting to a point where it goes down 2 to 3 times a day every day - my family complains every day that the internet is down,,, ping from my son as he says ,,,my son plays online gaming
already had a new box hub from sky as the new one broke down no fault of ours - sky did say the box in broke wont cost me anything - im paying for well over 5 to 8 devices to run the fastest sky internet but now I have 5months till contract ends and I will be moving back to virgin - had enough of sky - paying over the odds - for less fast internet - also found out by my bank statement that they have put my monthly payments up without even informing me first yet being contracted myself I thought that they couldnt break there contract with me with what I had agreed to pay with them and myself breaking my contract with them as I agreed of £27 a month and now its £29 a month dont know why as my internet hasnt been working properly or I havent been getting the correct speed since being with sky

Most unstable internet I've ever used. Having used Sky, Virgin and BT, Sky has been the worst. Connection always drops and the range doesn't leave one room. Customer service is great and the social media response is great. It's a shame they have to rely on bad tech.
